United States (TSA 3-1-1 rule, all US airports) liquids rules
US airports use the TSA 3-1-1 rule: containers of 3.4 oz (100 ml) or less in one quart-sized bag each. Whether the bag and laptops come out depends on the lane.
- Largest container
- 100 ml per item
- Clear bag needed
- one quart-sized (about 1 litre) bag per passenger
- Liquids stay in bag
- Not stated
- Laptops stay in bag
- Not stated
- Every lane
- Yes, all lanes
PreCheck: liquids and laptops stay in. New-scanner lanes: laptops may stay in, liquids vary. Other lanes: both come out. Declare larger amounts of medicine, formula or breast milk. Connecting from abroad? Duty-free over 100 ml must be sealed; TSA suggests checking it in.
Medicines, baby food and duty-free in sealed bags are exempt from the 100 ml limit. Rules vary by airport, so check your return and connecting airports too.
